Chapter 5

The Architect
of the Night

The walk to the royal pavilion was longer than Aarav remembered. Under the silver spill of a mountain moon, the camp of Gogunda felt like a living, breathing beast preparing for a hunt.

Aarav pulled his coarse woolen cloak tighter. To anyone passing by, he was just a frail scholar, but inside his belt lay the distilled essence of four centuries of future science, waiting to be unleashed.

Gogunda Camp at Night
ATMOSPHERE: PRE-WAR TENSION // TIME: 2300 HOURS

Rawat Chundawat led him to the entrance. "Leave your fear at the door, Aarav," he whispered. "The Rana does not need a boy tonight. He needs a weapon."

The interior of the Darbar was thick with the scent of burning cedar. The room was packed with the elite of Mewar. In the center, standing over a map of the Haldighati pass, was the Rana.

The War Council

"My generals tell me we must meet the Mughal elephant line with a suicidal charge," the Rana announced. "General Man Singh says the elephants are fortresses. What say you, Aarav?"

Aarav stepped forward. "An elephant is not a fortress, General. It is a biological machine. And like any system, it can be overloaded."

PROJECT: SUN-STRIKE (CHEMICAL COMPOUND)
The Grey Powder

"This grey dust creates a 'Sun-Strike'," Aarav explained. "A flash so bright it burns the retina. Coupled with a 'Whistling Arrow' to scream at high frequencies, it triggers panic in the amygdala."

The Rana picked up the powder. "You speak of science as if it were a spell. Prove it."

The Trial of the Violet Fire
The War Elephant Gajaraj

They moved to a terrace overlooking the valley. Below, Gajaraj, a massive veteran war elephant, stood calmly.

"Archers!" the Rana barked. "Fire."

The arrows hissed through the night. The moment they struck the stones at Gajaraj’s feet...

FLASH.
Magnesium Flash

The world vanished into a blinding, violet-white eruption. A magnesium-fueled sun turned night into day.

Gajaraj, the calm veteran, shrieked in pure terror. He backed away, shattering the fence, fleeing into the darkness, completely broken by a handful of dust.

Rana and Aarav

The Rana turned to Aarav, placing a heavy hand on his shoulder.

"You told me you were a coward, Aarav. But tonight, you have stolen the sun and given it to Mewar."

"From this day forth, you are the Shadow of Mewar. The Architect of the Night."
